Music Cataloging with RDA
with Colin Bitter, of Talbott Library Westminster Choir College/Rider University
Resource Description & Access (RDA) was formally implemented by the Library of Congress on March 31, 2013. Since that date librarians have been scrambling to learn and adopt RDA as preparation for a non-MARC data model will be cumbersome without new standards in place. One area of bibliographic control, music cataloging, has undergone a great number of developments since the transition to the newer code. This presentation will show the differences between AACR2 and RDA in the cataloging of music resources, illustrate some of the advantages to using the later set of guidelines, and touch on some post-RDA implementations, including Library of Congress Genre Form Terms (LCGFT) and the Library of Congress Medium of Performance Thesaurus (LCMPT).
