2013 Research Award & Forum

It is our pleasure to announce the  winners of the 2013 Research AwardDr. John Buschman, Dean of University Libraries, Seton Hall University, for his book Libraries, Classrooms, and the Interests of Democracy: Marking the Limits of Neoliberalism (Scarecrow Press, 2012) and Ronald C. Jantz, Digital Library Architect at Rutgers University Libraries, for his article "A Framework for Studying Organizational Innovation in Research Libraries," published in College & Research Libraries (Nov. 2012, vol. 73, issue 6, p. 525-541).

Dr. John Buschman's book "details the connections between educative institutions and democracy, and the resources within democratic theory, reflecting on the tensions between marketing, advertising, consumption and democracy" (Publisher description).  Ronald C. Jantz's article "proposes a theoretical framework and model for studying organizational innovation in research libraries and…set[s] forth propositions that can provide directions for future empirical studies of innovation in research libraries" (Abstract).  Both Buschman and Jantz have made valuable contributions to understanding the issues faced by all libraries as market forces pressure us to find innovative ways to not only survive but show value and thrive.

Please join us in congratulating the winners! A formal presentation of the awards will take place at the College and University Section’s luncheon on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, during the NJLA Annual Conference at the Revel Resort in Atlantic City, NJ. Dr. Buschman will be presenting on his book during the Research Forum later in the afternoon.  There is no forum scheduled for this year.
