Getting to know:

Linda Salvesen

Electronic Resources/Serials Management Librarian

Jennings Library at Caldwell University

1.  How did you get involved in NJLA-CUS/ACRL-NJ?  Since I moved to NJ (from PA), and eventually returned to academic libraries, I discovered through colleagues that VALE and NJLA were excellent organizations for both professional learning and networking. Meeting other academic librarians at local events sealed the deal.

2. When I’m not at the library, you can find me…  hiking, yardening (what I call working on both my yard and gardening), or running with my giant puppy. I love being outside in my free time (New Jersey weather permitting, of course).

3.  When you were young, what did you want to be when you ‘grew up’?  I deeply loved many different authors as a child (<3 RL Stine), so I always thought I’d end up as a writer… It is really cool that, while it’s not my focus, I still get to promote other authors in my work, as well as create some interesting content of my own.

4. What is your favorite part of your position? It’s hard to decide, since it changes with the academic year… But I’d say my favorite part of my position is posting on social media. I really get to use that creative part of my brain, and it never really feels like “work”.

5. What are you currently reading?  Life 3.0: Being Human in the Age of Artificial Intelligence by Max Tegmark and Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow by Yuval Noah Harari (along with about a dozen other titles!)
