Bibliographic Control and Metadata Committee (BCMC)

Mission Statement:

The Bibliographic Control and Metadata Committee will share and explore common issues faced by the academic technical services librarians in New Jersey State. To achieve this mission, the Committee has the following goals:

  • To share information and explore common issues in cataloging, processing, staff training, quality control, database management and departmental administration
  • To provide technical and moral support to members within its ability in the field of cataloging
  • To provide members with opportunities in continuing education and professional development
  • To promote innovative ideas and effective measures in the field of cataloging
  • To foster cooperative efforts in resource sharing among academic libraries


Weird, Wild, and Wonderful: Special Collections Cataloging

This workshop is intended for catalogers who have little or no experience with rare and unique materials, but who nonetheless find themselves faced with a rare or unique collection or item to catalog. Presenters will share general principles, best practices, and tips for cataloging and processing both single items and collections. Attendees are encouraged to bring examples of their most daunting items awaiting cataloging.

Wanted: BCMC Vice Chair/Chair Elect and Secretary!

The Vice-Chair/Chair Elect, elected at the fall meeting, shall serve a two-year term and succeed the office of Chair. The Vice-Chair/Chair Elect shall assist the Chair in managing committee related business, including working with the Chair to coordinate committee representation to other NJLA-CUS/ACRL-NJ committees related to charges of BCMC.
