By Denise O’Shea
Trevor Dawes, Director-Circulation Services Division at Princeton University, is the recipient of the 2012 Distinguished Service Award, granted by the NJLA’s College and University Section / ACRL-NJ chapter. This honor is awarded annually to an individual who, by his or her outstanding contributions, has directly enriched the profession of librarianship in New Jersey.
This award honors Trevor's leadership on behalf of libraries, librarians and the library profession in New Jersey. Trevor has served as the Director of the Circulation Services Division at Princeton University since 2004. Prior to that, he served in several different libraries at Columbia University.
Trevor has helped many librarians through his tireless committee work, the inspiring programs that he has organized, and the numerous presentations he has given to a wide variety of audiences including the Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS-NA) and the Princeton-Trenton chapter of the Special Libraries Association to name a few. He was the lead planner and host for the program "Technology and Library Services", an academic library symposium hosted at Princeton back in 2007. This program introduced many NJ academic librarians to new technologies such as social media. Trevor's commitment to library education also extends to sharing his expertise with the next generation of librarians. He is a member of the adjunct faculty at Drexel University's College of Information Science and Technology where he teaches a course titled Professional and Social Aspects of Information Services. Trevor is a past President of NJLA CUS/ACRL-NJ and a 2012 candidate for ACRL Vice-President/President-Elect.
A formal presentation of the award will take place at the College and University Section's luncheon at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at the NJLA Conference at the Revel Hotel, in Atlantic City, NJ. Please join the NJLA CUS/ACRL-NJ Executive Board in offering Trevor congratulations and appreciation for the many years he has dedicated to the academic library profession.
